Idag är det lördag och vår vistelse i SLC lider mot sitt slut för denna gången. Edith är lite besviken att inte Jacqline vann Idol-finalen, men annars har hon haft en bra dag idag – såhär långt.
På måndag åker vi hem igen om inget strular. Jag tror att planet lyfter vid tvåtiden, Uber-resan till flygplatsen tar inte mer än tjugo minuter, så vi behöver inte gå upp mitt i natten. Men denna gången ser vi nog till att vara i extra god tid på flygplatsen ändå, inte för att vi är rädda att missa planet utan för att vi har tillgång till Deltas Sky lounge.
Igår träffade vi Kitty, som var flygvärdinna på planet hem förra resan, hennes man Tony och en av deras döttrar Grace. Kitty kom och hämtade oss på RMHC och tog oss på en juldekorations-sightseeing i SLC innan vi åkte hem till henne och åt middag. Under våra tidigare besök i SLC har vi inte hunnit se så mycket av staden, så det var roligt att åka på nya vägar, i nya kvarter och framförallt att bli välkomnade in i ett amerikanskt hem. Vid sidan av att skämma bort oss några timmar och ge oss julklappar har Kittys familj också valt att göra en donation för Ediths resa.
Både Kitty och hennes man Tony har kontakter i flygbranschen. Kitty ser till att hennes kollegor tar lite extra hand om oss på planet och denna gången har hon och Tony sett till att Edith kan ta det lite lugnt i Sky loungen innan vi åker. Det känns väldigt lyxigt i en utsatt situation.
Genom nyhetsinslagen och bloggen har vi också kommit i kontakt med Candice och hennes familj här i Utah. Candice har en dotter som också har en RNS, en RNS som dr Bollo opererat in. Edith var första barnet i Europa och den första svensken när hon fick sin RNS. Mia, som dottern heter, fick sin några år tidigare och var då det yngsta barnet med en RNS i världen. Båda två är riktigt tuffa tjejer.
Candice och jag har mejlat sedan hon hörde av sig i september. Vi lever olika liv, i olika världsdelar, våra döttrar har olika utmaningar, men vi kämpar mot samma mål. Det gör att det är lätt att ändå förstå varandra. I torsdags träffade vi Mia, Candice och resten av deras stora familj för första gången. De bjöd oss på världens förmodligen största pizza några kvarter från RMHC. De hade också tillsammans med släkten gjort och köpt julklappar och gjort en donation till Ediths resa. Edith spelade Fia med knuff med Mia och hennes syskon, men hade lite svårt att förklara reglerna på engelska, så när det var dags att åka hem föreslog jag att vi skulle förklara matchen som oavgjord för att undvika potentiella konflikter 😉
Tack familjen Lee och familjen Klekas. Ni är några av dem som bidrar till att göra Ediths resa lite mindre svår. Vi hoppas få möjlighet att träffa er igen när vi kommer tillbaka.

It is amazing what some media coverage and a meeting on an airplane can lead to
Today is Saturday and our stay in SLC is coming to an end this time. Edith is a little disappointed that Jacqline did not win the Swedish Idol yesterday, but otherwise she has had a good day today – so far.
If everything goes according to plan, we will go home on Monday. I think we departure at two o’clock, the Uber journey to the airport takes no more than twenty minutes, so we do not have to get up in the middle of the night. But this time we will probably make sure to be in extra good time at the airport anyway, not because we are afraid of missing the plane but because this time we have access to Delta’s Sky lounge.
Yesterday we met Kitty, who was one of the flight attendants on the plane home last trip, her husband Tony and one of their daughters Grace. Kitty came and picked us up at RMHC and took us on a Christmas decoration sightseeing in SLC before we went to her house and had a wonderful dinner. During our previous visits to SLC we have not had time to see much of the city, so it was fun to go on new roads, in new neighborhoods and above all to be welcomed into an American home. In addition to spoiling us for a few hours and giving us Christmas presents, Kitty’s family has also chosen to make a donation for Edith’s trip.
Both Kitty and her husband Tony have contacts in the aviation industry. Kitty makes sure that her colleagues take a little extra care of us on the plane and this time she and Tony have made sure that Edith can relax in the Sky lounge before we go. It feels very luxurious in a vulnerable situation.
Through the news and the blog, we have also come in contact with Candice, her husband Evan and their family here in Utah. Candice has a daughter, Mia, who also has an RNS, an RNS that Dr. Bollo implanted. Edith was the first child in Europe and the first Swede when she received her RNS. Mia got her a few years earlier and was then the youngest child with an RNS in the world. Both Mia and Edith are really tough girls.
Candice and I have been emailing since she contacted me in September. We live different lives, in different parts of the world, our daughters have different challenges, but we all fight for the same goal. This makes it easy to understand each other anyway. Last Thursday we met Mia, Candice and the rest of their family for the first time. They bought us the world’s probably largest pizza a few blocks from the RMHC. Together with their family and relatives, they had also made and bought Christmas presents to us and made a donation to Edith’s trip. Mia and her siblings took really good care of Edith. They made bracelets and played Ludo with Edith at the restaurant, but Edith had a bit of a hard time explaining the Swedish rules in English, so when it was time to go home I suggested that we declare the game a draw to avoid potential conflicts 😉.
Thank you Lee family, and thank you Klekas family. You really help make Edith’s journey a little less difficult. It is invaluable! We hope to have the opportunity to meet you again when we return and that we stay in touch.
