DAG 6 i SLC – Sveriges nationaldag i USA

Ediths mamma gjorde ett inlägg tidigare idag så jag väljer att fatta mig kort. Vi har inte riktigt haft möjlighet att fira nationaldagen idag, är också osäker på hur man egentligen ska fira den. Förmodligen med sill, men det har vi inte tillgång till här.

Nu tillhör jag den del av befolkningen som gillar sill. Både att lägga in och äta. Men annars kan man kanske tycka att vi är lite fantasilösa i Sverige som så fort det blir en större helg öppnar sillburken. Sill med ägg till påsk, med nypotatis på midsommar, härsken sill i tunnbröd på sensommaren och sill med skinka och köttbullar på julen. Men så länge jag slipper surströmming klagar jag inte.

DAY 6 in SLC – Sweden’s national day in the USA

Edith’s mother made a post earlier today so I choose to be brief. We have not really had the opportunity to celebrate the Swedish National Day today – 6^th of June. I’m also unsure of how to actually celebrate it. We haven’t really built up a tradition – its not like 4^th of July in the US. I read somewhere that it was the fresh potato day in Sweden today as well? So then maybe we should actually be eaten fresh potatoes and herring.

I belong to the part of the population in Sweden that love pickled herring. But otherwise you might think that we are a bit unimaginative in Sweden, which as soon as a holiday is coming up opens a jar of herring. We eat herring with eggs for Easter, with fresh potatoes and sour cream in midsummer, sour herring in flatbread in late August and then pickled herring again with ham and meatballs at Christmas.

However, I do not belong to the part of the population that eats sour herring – it’s nasty.

*Swedish attempt to play baseball at RMHC. We should probably stick to soccer…
