DAG 1 i SLC – lillebror har tjänat 2 dollar

”Noodles please. Chicken. Thank you.” genererade en dollar. Nästa fick lillebror när han gick ner till receptionen själv och beställde ”Two drinks. Apple. Thank you.” Syftet var inte att spara benen på pappa, utan belöningen fick han för modet att gå utanför sin komfortzon, dessutom i ett främmande land och på ett främmande språk. Han kommer också att bli tuffare än pappa.

Tanken var att han skulle få köpa glass i macken på andra sidan gatan (i mitt sällskap). Men där fanns allt utom glass. Det hade behövts idag. Det är riktigt varmt här.

Men vi fick lite semesterstämning ändå. Det var välkommet efter den långa resan och innan sjukhusbesöken börjar imorgon. På förmiddagen träffar vi delar av teamet på Primary Children´s Hospital.

Edith är ju huvudpersonen på den här resan. Men lillebrors stöd är ovärderligt. Han hamnar ibland i kläm på grund av Ediths sjukdom. Det är inte okey, men omöjligt att undvika. Han är och har under de här åren varit världens bästa lillebror. Förhoppningsvis får vi möjlighet att göra något kul med honom under tiden här, han är lite sugen på att testa att bada i saltsjön. När Edith blir bättre kommer han också att få det bättre. Han har inte valt denna resa, men vi gör den för honom också.

DAY 1 in SLC – little brother has earned 2 bucks

“Noodles please. Chicken. Thank you. ” generated one dollar. The second dollar little brother earned today was when he went down to the reception at RMHC himself and ordered “Two drinks. Apple. Thank you. ” The purpose was not to save Dad from exercise, the reward he got was for the courage to go outside his comfort zone, in a foreign country and in a foreign language. He also will be tougher than dad when he grows up.

The idea was that he would be able to buy ice cream at the gas station across the street (not alone, this time) with his own money. But the gas station had everything, except ice cream. It would have been nice with ice cream today. It’s really hot here.

But we got some holiday feeling anyway. It was much appreciated and well needed after the long journey from Sweden to SLC, and before the hospital visits begin tomorrow. In the morning, we will meet the team at Primary Children’s Hospital the first time IRL!

Edith is the main character in this story. But little brother’s support is crucial for her. Edith’s illness effects his life in so many ways. It’s not what we want, but impossible to avoid. He is and has during these years been the world’s greatest little brother. Hopefully we get the opportunity to do something fun with him during the stay here in SLC, he is a little curious to try swimming in the Salt Lake.

When Edith gets better, he will also have a better life. He has not chosen to go on this trip, but we do it for him as well.

* There are Ronald McDonald houses in Sweden as well. They work differently, but have and serve the same purpose – ”a home away from home”. In our case far away from home. We are grateful that we can stay here while we are in SLC.
