7 DAGAR KVAR – om en vecka är vi alltså på väg.

Om en vecka har inget förändrats, om en vecka kommer sjukdomen ha samma grepp om vår familj, om en vecka finns osäkerheten kvar. Men, vi kommer att ha kommit en bra bit över Atlanten och tagit ett steg till på vägen mot att Edith får en chans att bli bättre. Det måste vara rätt val.

Nåväl, imorgon börjar vi packa på riktigt. Väskorna har legat framme en vecka – det var länge sedan de användes. Pass, kontaktuppgifter till vår läkare i USA och några växlade dollar ligger också framme. Detta är ingen vanlig semesterresa, det räcker inte med badbyxor, skidglasögon eller vad man nu brukar packa. Denna gången gäller det att alla dokument är i ordning, kompletta och vidimerade för att styrka att den amerikanska ambassaden i Stockholm faktiskt gjort ett korrekt undantag för oss, att vi är välkomna in i USA trots att gränsen egentligen är stängd. Att medicinen Edith behöver för två, tre månader är med i handbagaget och att vi kan intyga att hon faktiskt fått den utskriven. Till slut handlar det om en enskild tulltjänstemans/kvinnas bedömning om vi får komma in eller inte och vad vi får ta med oss. Snus är också ett bekymmer – mitt då, inte Ediths. Sen krävs såklart ett negativt Covid-test också. Det ska tas på fredag.

Imorgon vill Edith åka till skolan och bjuda klassen på glass om hon är pigg nog. Hon vet att vi måste åka till USA så fort vi får chansen, men är olycklig för att hon missar skolavslutningen, igen.

7 DAYS LEFT – in a week we are on our way

In a week nothing has changed, in a week the disease will have the same grip on our family, in a week the uncertainty remains. But, we will have come a long way across the Atlantic and taken another step on the road to Edith getting a chance to get better. It must be the right choice.

Well, tomorrow we really have to start packing. The bags have been lying around for a week – it has been a long time since they were used. Passports, contact information for our doctor in the USA and a few dollars lying next to the cases.

This is no ordinary holiday trip, it is not enough with swimming trunks, ski goggles or what you usually bring on a vacation. This time it is important that all documents are in order, complete and certified to prove that the American embassy in Stockholm has actually made a correct exception for us, that we are welcome into the United States despite the fact that the border is actually closed. That the medicine Edith needs for two, three months is in the hand luggage and that we can certify that she actually has av valid prescription.  Then of course a negative Covid test is also required. It will be taken on Friday.

Tomorrow Edith wants to go to school and bring ice cream to the class, if she is feeling well enough. She knows we have to go to the US as soon as we get the chance, but is unhappy that she will miss graduation, again.
