Idag har Edith och hennes lillebror gjort sin sista dag på plats i skolan, i fyran respektive ettan. Edith kom i alla fall iväg idag, det var första gången på säkert en vecka. Efter lunch kom mamma dit med glass – Piggelin till alla i klass A och B. Det var viktigt för Edith att ha någon form av skolavslutning.
Lillebror ville hellre smyga iväg, så ingen glass i ettan. Men han var glad för att han fick välja sin födelsedagspresent ur frökens presentlåda i förtid – en nyckelring.
En annan milstolpe idag är att vi fått vårt ”medical exception” från ambassaden! Det är ett tillsynes litet, men i sammanhanget väsentligt steg mot målet.
En journalist frågade mig tidigare idag om Edith visste vart hon ska, varför och vad hon ska göra där. Edith vet såklart, vi har varit pratat mycket om resan. Men ingen av oss kan, eller vill väl fullt ut ta in det faktum att det blir minst en operation.
Vi skulle egentligen börja packa idag. Det får bli imorgon.

6 DAYS LEFT – ice cream, keychain and medical exception
Today, Edith and her little brother have made their last day at school. Edith in fourth grade, little brother in first. In any case, Edith visited the class today, it was the first time in a week. After lunch, Edith´s mother went there with ice cream for Edith´s class mates. It was important for Edith to have some kind of graduation.
Little brother would rather sneak away, so no ice cream in his class. But he was happy that he got to choose his birthday present from the teacher´s gift box prematurely – a keychain.
Another milestone today is that we have received our ”medical exception” from the embassy! It is a seemingly small, but in context essential step towards the goal.
A reporter asked me earlier today if Edith knew where she was going, why and what she was going to do in the US. Of course Edith knows, we’ve talked a lot about the trip. But none of us can, or want to fully take in the fact that there will be at least one brain surgery.
We had actually planned to start packing today. But it will have to wait.
