I veckan har vi träffat familjen Lee, varit på Walmart och softat i parken. Men kanske viktigare ändå har vi varit på återbesök hos Dr Bollo och teamet och diskuterat hemfärden.
I söndags kom familjen Lee hit på lunch. Vi bestämde oss för att äta i parken, dels för att det är trevligt att äta ute, dels för att familjen Lee skulle slippa ta de obligatoriska covid-testerna för alla som vill vistas i huset. Men vi var inte ensamma om att uppskatta sensommarvädret – det gjorde getingarna också. Däremot uppskattar inte Ediths mamma getingarna, så efter en stund var det bara för Lees att utsätta sig för covid-topsarna så att vi kunde gå in. Men det var å andra sidan trevligt att få visa familjen hur vi bor när vi är i USA, hur vårt ”Home Away From Home” ser ut på insidan. Det är alltid kul att träffa Mia och hennes familj. Vem vet, en vacker dag kanske de kommer och hälsar på i Sverige.
Edith har peppar, peppar varit lite piggare sedan RNSen startades igång på riktigt igen. Ryckningarna hon hade efter den senaste operationen försvann, hon har sovit betydligt mindre och humöret har varit bättre. Jag tror helt enkelt att hon kanske har mått lite bättre. Sen är det alltid svårt att veta vad som är en tillfällighet och vad som inte är det. Efter alla motgångar tar det också emot att ta ut något i förskott, att högt uttala en framgång. Jag vet inte om det har med vidskeplighet att göra, men en råsop tar i alla fall så mycket värre om man inte håller andan, redan har magmusklerna spända.
Edith var i alla fall tillräckligt pigg för att åka med lillebror till Walmart och för att gå runt bland både Halloween och jul-pynt. Jag är inte säker på att hon är riktigt lika imponerad som lillebror av denna amerikanska institution. Kanske var det därför orken inte riktigt räckte för att ta sig runt i hela varuhuset för egen maskin, men eftersom även kundvagnarna är större i USA var det inga problem för Edith att kunna vila benen i den en stund.
Tidigare idag var vi på sjukhuset för återbesök. Vi kom dit i god tid så Ediths mamma hann jaga ekonomifolket, medan Edith, lillebror och jag åt frukost i cafeterian, men hon jagade utan direkt framgång. Så vi vet fortfarande inte exakt vad notan kommer att landa på, eller hur vi ska hantera betalningarna och det bekymrar oss minst sagt. Däremot vet vi att vi kanske kan åka hem på söndag. Det som avgör är hur Edith reagerar på RNS-justeringarna teamet gjorde idag. Vi har fram till fredag på oss att se så att Edith inte reagerar negativt, om vi vill hinna med planet på söndag. Vi kan så klart dra i nödbromsen i helgen också, men då hinner vi inte ändra tillbaka till inställningarna hon hade innan idag förrän nästa vecka och behöver i så fall försöka boka om flygbiljetterna. Och vi vill väldigt gärna hem nu…

Maybe we can go home on Sunday
This week we met the Lee family, went to Walmart and hung out in the RMH park. But perhaps more importantly, we have been on a return visit to Dr. Bollo and the team and discussed the journey home.
Last Sunday, the Lee family came here for lunch. We decided to eat in the RMH park, partly because it is nice to eat outside, partly because the Lee family would not have to take the mandatory covid tests for everyone who wants to stay in the house more than 15 minutes. But we weren’t alone in appreciating the late summer weather (or if it was the meatballs) – so did the wasps. However, Edith’s mother doesn’t appreciate the wasps, so after a while there was no option for Lees but to expose themselves to the covid tests, so we could go inside. But it was nice to show the family how we live when we are in the US, what our Home Away From Home looks like on the inside. It is always nice to meet Mia and her family. Who knows, one day they might come and visit us in Sweden – we hope so.
Edith has, knock on wood, been a bit more alert since the RNS was started in stimulation mode again. The twitches she had after the last surgery disappeared, she has slept significantly less and her mood has been better – I just think she’s been feeling a little better. Then it is always difficult to know what is a coincidence and what is not. After all setbacks, we don’t want to celebratre any victories in advance, or proclaim success out loud. I don’t know if it has to do with superstition, but I know that a punch to the stomach feels so much worse if you’re not holding your breath, if your stomach muscles are not already on alert.
At least Edith felt well enough to go with little brother to Walmart and to walk around among both Halloween and Christmas decorations. I’m not sure she’s quite as impressed as little brother by Walmart, maybe that’s why she didn’t have the energy to go around the entire department store on her own, but since the shopping carts are also bigger in the US than in Sweden, it wasn’t a problem for Edith to rest her legs in the cart for a while.
Earlier today we were at the hospital for a return visit. We got there in good time so Edith’s mother had time to try to get hold of the finance people, while Edith, little brother and I had breakfast in the cafeteria, but she couldn’t get hold of the right person. So we still don’t know exactly what the bill will be, or how we’re going to handle the payments and that worries us a lot. However, we know that we might be able to go home on Sunday. The deciding factor is how Edith reacts to the RNS adjustments the team made today. We have until Friday to make sure that Edith does not react negatively, if we want to catch the plane on Sunday. We can of course pull the ”emergency brake” this weekend as well, but then we won’t have time to change back to the settings she had before today, until next week and in that case we need to try to rebook the plane tickets. And we really want to go home now…
